Battle Town Museum

Steeped in history, it’s only right Battle is home to a magnificent museum nestled in the beautiful walled gardens of The Almonry.

Though it may seem small from the outside, the museum covers 125 million years of Battle’s rich history! Inside, you’ll find dinosaur footprints, relics of The Battle of Hastings, and artefacts and wondrous stories from Guy Fawkes, the World Wars and the Roman Bathhouse.

The museum and it’s stunning gardens are looked after completely by a team of fantastic volunteers, with donations being more than welcome to help with the upkeep of the area. A small shop is located within the museum with plenty of souvenirs and books, as well as maps and guides of Battle. Whilst visiting the museum, be sure to pop out to the back to explore the cottage garden, herb garden and Elizabethan-themed garden.

Battle Great Woods

Battle Great Wood, just outside the historical town of Battle, famous for the Battle of Hastings, is a great place to get lost for a few hours. The tracks, which are wide and well managed, are easy to walk. The planting is mostly conifer trees and the wood is used by horse riders and cyclists, so take care. A great place to leave troubles behind and just wander.
