Our first lecture of 2024, entitled ‘Kent and Sussex Village Names and their Meanings’ will be given in the Wynne Room of Battle Memorial Halls at 7.30pm on Thursday 18 January. Our lecturer is Simon Mansfield, born in Etchingham with an interest in exploring local history, particularly helped by his enquiring, scientific background. His presentation will focus on the interpretation of the local Saxon village names which appears to make logical sense but which is probably not to be described as mainstream.
